CalBurn (“the App”) is developed and operated by Owlmyst. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how it is used, and your rights regarding that data. By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

  • Account information: Email address and display name if you create an account.
  • Food logs: Meal entries, calorie counts, and macro data you input or confirm.
  • Favorite meals: Meals you save for 1-tap logging.

1.2 Camera and Photos

When you use the photo food-scanning feature, the App accesses your device camera to capture images of meals. These images are transmitted to our AI processing service to identify food items and estimate nutritional content. Photos are used solely for analysis and are not stored on our servers after processing is complete. You can revoke camera access at any time in your device settings.

1.3 Usage Data

We may collect anonymized, non-identifiable data about how you interact with the App (e.g., features used, session duration) to improve performance and user experience.

1.4 Device Information

We collect basic device identifiers (device type, operating system version) for crash reporting and compatibility purposes.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the data we collect to:

  • Provide the core functionality of the App, including AI-powered food recognition and macro tracking.
  • Display your daily nutritional goals, rings, and progress dashboard.
  • Save and retrieve your favorite meals.
  • Diagnose technical issues and improve App performance.
  • Comply with applicable legal obligations.

We do not use your data for advertising, sell it to third parties, or use it for any purpose not listed above.

3. AI and Photo Processing

CalBurn uses an AI model to analyze food photos. When you snap a photo:

  1. The image is securely transmitted over an encrypted connection to our AI processing service.
  2. The AI identifies food items and estimates calories, protein, carbs, and fats.
  3. The result is returned to your device.
  4. The image is not retained on our servers after analysis is complete.

We may use aggregated, fully anonymized nutritional data (never linked to your identity) to improve AI model accuracy.

4. Third-Party Services

To operate the App, we use the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy:

AI/ML Provider Food image analysis and macro estimation
Crash Reporting (e.g., Firebase Crashlytics) App stability and error logging
App Store / Google Play App distribution and payment processing

5. Data Retention

  • Food logs and account data are retained as long as your account is active.
  • Food photos are deleted immediately after AI analysis is complete and are never stored long-term.
  • Anonymized usage data may be retained indefinitely for analytics purposes.

You may request deletion of all your personal data at any time by contacting us (see Section 8).

6. Data Security

We use industry-standard encryption (TLS) for all data transmitted between the App and our servers. We follow security best practices to protect your data from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure.

7. Children’s Privacy

CalBurn is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate data.
  • Delete your account and associated data.
  • Withdraw consent for data processing at any time.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the Effective Date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. For significant changes, we will notify you via the App or email.
